Dr. Peter L.J. Bos

Chairman of the board

Clemens is a medical biotechnologist from origin. He  became a fire officer in 2000 and started working at the regional fire brigade Mid- and West-Brabant. In the years to come he fulfilled numerous positions, for instance chief of the material department. He worked for ICET in Sri Lanka in 2008 and 2009. 

After returning to the Netherlands he rejoined his former collegues at the regional fire brigade. At the moment he’s studying to become the health and safety expert at the fire brigade. In doing so he’s trying to link best safety practices with psychological and philosophical ideas. 

In his spare time he loves to attend his philosophy classes, to be an amateur magician and to travel to non ordinary places. He has his own ideas about Facebook and has a sincere interest in politics, people and culture.  

Peter is the general director of the safety region Utrecht.  Next to that, Peter is Director Public Health in that region. Before becoming active in the Safety region, Peter had a carreer in the military.  In 2003 Peter received his PhD in Social siences at the university of Leiden. He did research in refugee crises.

He is the commander of The National Dutch Urban Search and Rescue unit. 

Alfred started as a volunteer fire fighter years ago in Loon op Zand. After that he became a career fire fighter in Helmond. In 2000 Alfred became the head of a dispatch unit in the region Mid- and West-Brabant. He became a fire officer in 2005 and worked in the training department fulfilling different positions. At the moment he works as a on duty officer.

 

A few years ago, the municipality of Tilburg started a project to support the municipality of Matagalpa , Nicaragua. In 2005 Alfred became involved and with a few colleagues (Clemens, Thorsten, Clemon Tonnaer and Wilbert Kleijer) started to support the fire department of Matagalpa. The work was very fulfilling and after the project stopped, he decided to continue the work in a different form i.e. Fire fighters without Borders.

Lonneke van Heeswijk

Secretary of the board

Jan worked as a manager in Central America for years. After returning to The Netherlands he launched ICET, and his company trained first responders around the world. ICET was active in Sri Lanka, India, Turkey, China and many other countries. Jan became a board member for Fire fighters without Borders in 2007 and does it with great pride. His global network is a big advantage and Jan has a special connection to the Guatemala and Sri Lanka projects, because of his past as an expat.  


 

Huib is a storyteller and liasion officer working within Regional firebrigade, helping to organise after action reviews in order to let people experience the benefits of looking back and learn from their operations. He loves connecting and showing people to live and work together based upon a more natural and heartbased way. He is participating in a national (Dutch) project to learn from incidents nationwide- developing a program to refresh both content and trainingskills for all regional instructors to multi-skilled trainingdirectors, such as more activating workforms and briefing and debriefing. Next to that he is a trainer/advisor, working at a program to integrate the different services involded in firefighting at (sea)ships. 

 

Huib went on mission to Sri Lanka where he trained the Colombo hazardous material instructors. 

Lonneke started as the secretary of the board in 2013. She works as project worker in de policy department of the Fire department of Mid-and West-Brabant. Before that, Lonneke worked in the construction branch and has been office manager for more than 2 years.  Between 2008 and 2010 she was member of municipality council of Tilburg.

Lonneke has a hands-on mentality and likes to get things done. She is socially engaged and joined the board because she likes to help out and be part of Fire fighters without Borders family. 

Thorsten became a fire officer in 1999. He worked in the fields of crisis disaster management, training and dispatching for several years. After that he specialized in hazardous materials and became a health physicist. He trained over 500 individuals in handling hazardous materials from more than 10 different countries. He is active in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism since 2010. Thorsten is the spokesperson for the Foundation. 

 

Is his spare time, Thorsten is a juggler and founded the WeJuggle Foundation. He is a humanitarian by heart and loves working under difficult circumstances and with different cultures helping other people. In his free time he likes to do photography and is a Nikon lens collector.
